Pünktlich zur Tour erscheint am 25.10.2024 Beth Harts neues Studioalbum You Still Got Me. Ich mag Beth Hart vor allem, wenn ihre Songs härter und schneller sind. Meine Albumfavoriten sind Savior With A Razor (feat. Slash) und Suga N My Bowl (feat. Eric Gales), gefolgt von Never Underestimate A Gal und Machine Gun Vibrato.
Der Schwerpunkt des Albums liegt auf ruhigeren Songs wie You Still Got Me, einer Liebenerklärung an ihren Mann Scott, der ihr in den letzten Jahrzehnten zur Seite stand und noch steht. Für mich ist es ein durchwachsenes Album, das von Beths unvergleichlicher Stimme und den Emotionen die sie dadurch transportiert, getragen wird. You Still Got Me ist hörenswert. Jeder findet sich in einem ihrer Songs wieder. (Viktor)

Ich hatte einen Moment, in dem ich nicht gut drauf war, und ich hing auf der Couch und weinte ziemlich viel, und Scott sagte: ‚Hey, brauchst du eine Umarmung? Ich sagte, ich hätte nichts mehr, was ich lieben könnte, und er sagte, du hast immer noch mich. Ich sagte: ‚Warte einen Moment, ich bin gleich wieder da. Die Grammy-nominierte Singer-Songwriterin Beth Hart kündigt ihr neues Studioalbum „You Still Got Me“ an, das am 25. Oktober über Provogue / Mascot Label Group erscheinen wird.
Auf dem Album sind Auftritte von Eric Gales und Slash zu hören. Mit „Wonderful World“ erscheint nun ein weiterer Song aus dem neuen Album. Wer Beth Hart schon einmal live gesehen hat oder sich in ihre Musik vertieft hat, weiß, dass sie jedes Gramm ihres Wesens in ihre Songs steckt. Feuermänner inspirieren; das ist es, was die Menschen zu ihnen hinzieht.
Zu den Eigenschaften dieser Persönlichkeiten gehört jedoch auch, dass sie kein Gurtzeug tragen. Sie leben von der Freiheit und dem Raum, der sie umgibt. Aber das bringt auch Gefahren mit sich; man braucht eine emotionale Schutzmatte, und die rettet Leben. Das ist etwas, was wir alle im Laufe unseres Lebens manchmal brauchen. Im Video zum Titeltrack „You Still Got Me“ ist ihr geliebter Ehemann Scott zu sehen. Scott und das Team um sie herum geben ihr den Halt, wenn sie ihn braucht. Abend für Abend kann man auf
der Tournee die Bewunderung sehen, die sie erhält, und dass sie auch etwas zurückgibt. Diese Verbindung ist in den letzten 28 Jahren entstanden, in denen sie Musik veröffentlicht hat, bei der sie ihr Herz ganz offen auf der Zunge trägt – wie eine Kriegerin. Und genau das ist sie auch.
Heute stellt sie die wunderschöne Klavierballade Wonderful World“ vor, die vor Optimismus nur so strotzt. „Dieser Song wurde für und über meine wunderschöne Nichte geschrieben“, sagt sie. „Im Laufe der Zeit habe ich festgestellt, dass er eigentlich für die Frauen in meiner Familie geschrieben wurde. Für meine Urgroßmutter, meine Großmutter, meine Mutter, meine Schwestern, meine Nichte und ihre Tochter. Es geht also um die Abstammung und darum, wie wichtig es für mich ist, das zu sehen, und was für ein Geschenk es ist, das endlich zu erkennen.“
Beth sagt über ihren Schreibprozess: „Es geht immer um die Freude am Schreiben oder um die Herausforderung des Schreibens, um die Suche nach dem, was vor sich geht. Manchmal, wenn ich traurig bin oder Angst habe, höre ich auf dem Klavier nach. Manchmal kommt ein Lied, manchmal nicht. So oder so, es spendet mir Trost.“
Das Album beginnt mit dem mitreißenden Rocker ‚Savior With A Razor‘ mit Guns n‘ Roses‘ Gitarrist Slash. Die epische, Bond ähnliche Hymne donnert mit nihilistischem Trotz, während Beths Gesang den Hörer durch die Schatten führt, während Slashs
Gitarre die Geschichte auf elektrische Weise umspielt. „Beth Hart ist eine der Künstlerinnen, mit denen ich am liebsten zusammenarbeite“, sagt Slash. „Sie ist eine unglaubliche Sängerin und Texterin auf so vielen Ebenen. Aber Beth ist auch eine

Beth erklärt die Botschaften in den Liedern: „Ich überlasse es dem Hörer, das zu entscheiden. Ich persönlich weiß, wofür es im Moment steht. Eines der schönen Dinge, die ich an Songs und Alben liebe, ist, dass sich die Bedeutung mit der Zeit ändert. Ich
halte mir das gerne offen, weil ich daraus viel lernen kann.“
Little Heartbreak Girl, bricht durch die Wolken wie Speere der Hoffnung und Kraft. „Little Heartbreak Girl, du bist auf dich allein gestellt“, sehnt sie sich, doch dann folgt ‚Little heartbreak girl, stronger than stone‘. Dennoch ist es der Text „You’re gonna
conquer the world“, der den Berg erhebt und eine Flagge in den Boden pflanzt.
Der dekadente, groovige Funk von „Suga N My Bowl“ wird von dem Wahnsinns-Gitarristen und ihrem langjährigen Freund Eric Gales begleitet. In „Never Underestimate a Gal“ gibt sie eine warnende Geschichte zum Besten, während das an Tom’s Waits erinnernde „Drunk on Valentine“ eine zarte, jazzige, rauchige Barroom-Ballade ist.
Wir alle haben unser „Assoziation“, wenn sie „You still got me“ singt – einen geliebten Menschen, einen Freund, ein Haustier, einen Ort, eine Erinnerung, ein Lied… selbst in ihren Momenten der Zerbrechlichkeit inspiriert Beth Hart weiter. My favorite songs on the album are Savior With A Razor (feat. Slash) and Suga N My Bowl (feat. Eric Gales), followed by Never Underestimate A Gal and Machine Gun Vibrato.
The focus of the album is on quieter songs like You Still Got Me, a declaration of love to her husband Scott, who has stood by her side through the decades and continues to do so. For me, it is a mixed album, carried by Beth’s incomparable voice and the emotions she conveys through it. You Still Got Me is worth listening to. Everyone will find themselves in one of her songs. If you have ever seen Beth Hart live or immersed yourself in her music, you know she puts every ounce of her being into her songs. For all of those empathetic superpowers, she also needs someone to catch her when she falls. Firebrands inspire; it’s what attracts people to them. However, part of those personalities‘ makeup is that they do not wear a harness. They thrive on the freedom and space around them. But, with that comes danger; you need an emotional crash mat, and those save lives. It is something we all need at times throughout our lives.
Beth says about the title track, „This is a true story. I had a moment where I wasn’t in a positive mood, and I was hanging out on the couch, crying pretty hard, and Scott said, ‚Hey, do you need a hug?‘ I said, I’ve got nothing inside left to love, and he said, you still got me. I said, hang on a minute; I’ll be right back. I went downstairs and used those words and how he said it. You say something like that, and someone you love says back, but you’ve still got me. It’s true. If I’ve still got him, I’ve still got everything.“
You can see this in the „You Still Got Me“ video, poignantly featuring her beloved husband, Scott. Along with the team around her, provide that surface to fall on when she needs it. Her fans adore her, and the feeling is replicated. You can see that night after night on tour; the adulation she receives and that she also gives back, which is why there is a bond like few other artists have. That connection has been forged over the last 28 years of releasing music in which she unapologetically wears her heart on her sleeve – like a warrior. Which is precisely what she is.
It’s okay not to be okay. It’s okay to struggle sometimes, and it takes enormous strength to open yourself up to help. Reaching out a hand to have someone hold on to it is strength. This is something that we can all learn.
Beth says about her writing process, „I never write in terms of thinking it’s going to be an album or go to people. When I write, it’s always for the joy of writing or for the challenge of writing, to seek what’s going on. Sometimes, I go just when I’m sad or scared. If I check in on the piano, it sometimes reveals itself. Sometimes a song comes, and sometimes one doesn’t. Either way, there’s comfort there.“
Beth explains the messaging within the songs: „I leave that up to the listener to decide. Personally, I know what it is for right now. One of the beautiful things I love about songs and albums is that over time, that meaning changes. I like to keep that open because there’s a lot I can learn from it. Often, when I write a song, I think I know what that means to me at that moment. But a year will go by, and it means something totally different.“
You don’t have to look too hard to find moments of daylight throughout the album. You can see it in the song, Little Heartbreak Girl, as it pierces through the clouds like spears of hope and power. „Little Heartbreak Girl, you’re on your own,“ she yearns but follows with „Little heartbreak girl, stronger than stone“. Still, it’s the lyric „You’re gonna conquer the world“ scattered throughout that stands atop the mountain, planting a flag into the stone.
The decadent groove-laden funk of „Suga N My Bowl“ features the dextrous fire fingers of Southpaw wizard and longtime friend Eric Gales. Gales says, „It is truly an honor to be part of anything having to do with our friend Beth Hart. She reached out to us, letting us know of this powerful song she’d been writing and workin‘ on, and she felt it was a perfect fit for me. Of course, when I heard it, I said, ABSOLUTELY!!! Beth, LaDonna, and I have been good friends for quite some time. And we love her. I’m so honored that she thought of me to participate on it. It’s a very powerful song!“
„Eric Gales is a badass, and I got very blessed,“ Hart says. „I wasn’t there as it was sent to another studio. I heard this from his wife, the gorgeous, talented, badass LaDonna. He came in, they played the first couple of bars of the song, and he said, alright, I got it and did one take, and he’s like, I’m done, I’ll see you later,“ she laughs. “That’s how phenomenal Eric Gales is. I love him. I adore him and respect him madly.“
‚You Still Got Me‘ is Hart’s eleventh studio album, and right here, right now, it finds her riding a career trajectory that has been heading for the stars for several years and keeps soaring. Her most recent albums, ‚ A Tribute To Led Zeppelin‘ (2022) and ‚War In My Mind‘ (2019), became her highest charting UK and US releases to date, along with crashing into the Top 10 in Germany and France, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, and The Netherlands.
